Als begnadete Performerin ohne relevantes Songwriter-Talent hat man es nicht leicht. Dementsprechend war Tina Turners Output zeitlebens von wechselnder Qualität.

Nach einer Flut belangloser bis ärgerlicher Best Of-Compilations durfte man sich zu Recht fragen, ob das Live-Comeback mit 70 Jahren peinlich oder triumphal werden würde. Andererseits zieht es sich wie ein roter Faden durch das Leben von Anna Mae Bullock, dass sie künstlerisch unterschätzt, belächelt oder abgeschrieben wurde. Doch das ist alles blanker Unsinn. Die Queen Mum des Rock'n'Soul ist auch im biblischen Showbiz-Alter ein unaufhaltsamer Taifun; eine Naturgewalt, die jeden kritischen Einwand spielend knickt wie ein Streichholz.

Vergesst alle cheesy Arrangements, alle kitschigen Duette, die Ramazzotti und co eingeredet haben. Vergesst alle überfordert hohlen Hupfdohlen von Britney bis Rihanna. Gegen Tina Turners vollkommen unpeinliche, schwitzende Leidenschaft für die Bühne wirkt sogar eine Beyonce ungefähr so spannend, wie eine verkleidete Bibliothekarin in der dörflichen Karaoke Bar. Das hat mehrere Gründe. Zum einen setzt die Legende aus Tennessee endlich wieder auf schnörkellose, knackig treibende Arrangements der rockigen Sorte. Zum anderen befindet sie sich körperlich - und vor allem stimmlich - eben nicht in der popmusikalischen Geriatrie. Das Stehauf-Weibchen aus Nutbush schreit und tobt über die Bühne, als hinge ihr Leben davon ab.

"Steamy Window" haut uns zum Einstieg gleich den Presslufthammer um die Ohren. Das hat in keiner bislang veröffentlichten Version annährend solch eine Power verströmt. "Better Be Good To Me" und "Acid Queen" bringen dann auch schon nach ca 20 Minuten den ersten Vulkanausbruch. Samt Bratzgitarren und perfekter rhythmischer Lightshow! Was nur ist das Geheimnis dieser berstenden Vorstellung? Ganz einfach: Tina Turner versucht nicht - im Gegensatz zu vielen Sängern - den jeweiligen Evergreen gezähmt routiniert abzunudeln. Sie bringt stattdessen auch dem ausgelutschtesten Gassenhauer mit ihrem Soul durchtränkten Blut noch zur alles verzehrenden Explosion.

Eine derart intensive Atmosphäre in recht unpersönlichen Stadien und großen Hallen zu verströmen, geht auch nur mit dem einzigartigen Charisma der Ehrenbürgerin von Nutbush. Dabei kann sie stets beruhigt auf ihr Talent setzen, sogar Coverversionen anderer Ikonen jederzeit scheinbar mühelos zu erobern. "Jumping Jack Flash/It's Only Rock'n'Roll" muss sich nicht im Mindesten hinter den alten Turner-Kumpeln Mick Jagger und Keith Richards verstecken. Bei dem lasziven "Addicted To Love" dreht Robert Palmer sich sicherlich nicht vor Scham im Grabe um. Und bei der herrlich atmosphärischen "Proud Mary" Interpretation denkt auch niemand an Creedence Clearwater Revival.

Nach deutlich mehr als zwei Stunden pausenlosen Feuerwerks setzt eine sichtlich gerührte Tina Turner mit "Nutbush City Limits" sogar energetisch noch eine Schippe drauf. Der beschaulich salonbluesige Ausklang "Be Tender With Me Baby" rundet das Bild geschmackvoll ab.

Gibt es also so gar keine Kritikpunkte? Das typisch Amerikanische, also die Überpräsenz von Tänzern und anderen eingestreuten Showeffekten kann einem schon mal sauer aufstoßen; ja, regelrecht auf den Wecker gehen. Aber dies ist eher Ausdruck des mitunter nicht gerade kleinen kulturellen Unterschieds und nicht wirklich verwerflich. Der geneigte Fan bekommt zudem sehr viel für seine Taler. Zum Preis einer CD gibt es den Gig komplett als Doppel-DVD/CD-Package. Der kristallklare und druckvolle Sound tut sein Übriges für ein bunt erfülltes Heimkino-Konzert. They never come back! heißt ein altes und pessimistisches Sprichwort. Die 70jährige Grande Dame des Rocksoul wird sich hierüber nicht einmal zu einem müden Lächeln herablassen.

Albumbeschreibung

Als begnadete Performerin ohne relevantes Songwriter-Talent hat man es nicht leicht. Dementsprechend war Tina Turners Output zeitlebens von wechselnder Qualität.

Nach einer Flut belangloser bis ärgerlicher Best Of-Compilations durfte man sich zu Recht fragen, ob das Live-Comeback mit 70 Jahren peinlich oder triumphal werden würde. Andererseits zieht es sich wie ein roter Faden durch das Leben von Anna Mae Bullock, dass sie künstlerisch unterschätzt, belächelt oder abgeschrieben wurde. Doch das ist alles blanker Unsinn. Die Queen Mum des Rock'n'Soul ist auch im biblischen Showbiz-Alter ein unaufhaltsamer Taifun; eine Naturgewalt, die jeden kritischen Einwand spielend knickt wie ein Streichholz.

Vergesst alle cheesy Arrangements, alle kitschigen Duette, die Ramazzotti und co eingeredet haben. Vergesst alle überfordert hohlen Hupfdohlen von Britney bis Rihanna. Gegen Tina Turners vollkommen unpeinliche, schwitzende Leidenschaft für die Bühne wirkt sogar eine Beyonce ungefähr so spannend, wie eine verkleidete Bibliothekarin in der dörflichen Karaoke Bar. Das hat mehrere Gründe. Zum einen setzt die Legende aus Tennessee endlich wieder auf schnörkellose, knackig treibende Arrangements der rockigen Sorte. Zum anderen befindet sie sich körperlich - und vor allem stimmlich - eben nicht in der popmusikalischen Geriatrie. Das Stehauf-Weibchen aus Nutbush schreit und tobt über die Bühne, als hinge ihr Leben davon ab.

"Steamy Window" haut uns zum Einstieg gleich den Presslufthammer um die Ohren. Das hat in keiner bislang veröffentlichten Version annährend solch eine Power verströmt. "Better Be Good To Me" und "Acid Queen" bringen dann auch schon nach ca 20 Minuten den ersten Vulkanausbruch. Samt Bratzgitarren und perfekter rhythmischer Lightshow! Was nur ist das Geheimnis dieser berstenden Vorstellung? Ganz einfach: Tina Turner versucht nicht - im Gegensatz zu vielen Sängern - den jeweiligen Evergreen gezähmt routiniert abzunudeln. Sie bringt stattdessen auch dem ausgelutschtesten Gassenhauer mit ihrem Soul durchtränkten Blut noch zur alles verzehrenden Explosion.

Eine derart intensive Atmosphäre in recht unpersönlichen Stadien und großen Hallen zu verströmen, geht auch nur mit dem einzigartigen Charisma der Ehrenbürgerin von Nutbush. Dabei kann sie stets beruhigt auf ihr Talent setzen, sogar Coverversionen anderer Ikonen jederzeit scheinbar mühelos zu erobern. "Jumping Jack Flash/It's Only Rock'n'Roll" muss sich nicht im Mindesten hinter den alten Turner-Kumpeln Mick Jagger und Keith Richards verstecken. Bei dem lasziven "Addicted To Love" dreht Robert Palmer sich sicherlich nicht vor Scham im Grabe um. Und bei der herrlich atmosphärischen "Proud Mary" Interpretation denkt auch niemand an Creedence Clearwater Revival.

Nach deutlich mehr als zwei Stunden pausenlosen Feuerwerks setzt eine sichtlich gerührte Tina Turner mit "Nutbush City Limits" sogar energetisch noch eine Schippe drauf. Der beschaulich salonbluesige Ausklang "Be Tender With Me Baby" rundet das Bild geschmackvoll ab.

Gibt es also so gar keine Kritikpunkte? Das typisch Amerikanische, also die Überpräsenz von Tänzern und anderen eingestreuten Showeffekten kann einem schon mal sauer aufstoßen; ja, regelrecht auf den Wecker gehen. Aber dies ist eher Ausdruck des mitunter nicht gerade kleinen kulturellen Unterschieds und nicht wirklich verwerflich. Der geneigte Fan bekommt zudem sehr viel für seine Taler. Zum Preis einer CD gibt es den Gig komplett als Doppel-DVD/CD-Package. Der kristallklare und druckvolle Sound tut sein Übriges für ein bunt erfülltes Heimkino-Konzert. They never come back! heißt ein altes und pessimistisches Sprichwort. Die 70jährige Grande Dame des Rocksoul wird sich hierüber nicht einmal zu einem müden Lächeln herablassen.
