Xosar

Using an arsenal of analog synthesizers, Sheela Rahman produces lo-fi experimental house and techno under the name Xosar. Her tracks range from dark, grainy free-form jams to more playful "surfer house" tracks to psychic explorations inspired by her fascination with the paranormal. Her musical influences range from Detroit techno to industrial pioneers Throbbing Gristle to black metal. Originally from San Jose, California, she studied neuropsychology in college before getting into graphic design and music production. She moved to The Hague, Netherlands in 2011 and lived with Danny Wolfers (Legowelt); the pair's house contained five rooms full of synthesizers. Beginning in 2012, Rahman released several well-received 12"s as Xosar on labels such as L.I.E.S., Rush Hour, and Crème Organization. She also collaborated with Wolfers under the names Xamiga and Trackman Lafonte & Bonquiqui. Rahman moved to Berlin in 2014 and continued releasing 12"s, as well as a digital full-length titled Psychick Justice. In 2015, she released her debut vinyl LP, Let Go, on Black Opal. She also collaborated with Luke Wyatt (Torn Hawk) under the name Body Tools, founded her own Gyrocyre label, and released another digital album, Holographic Matrix. The first Gyrocyre release, Xosar's Show Yourself EP, arrived in 2016. Following a self-released 2017 album titled Xymeria, Xosar's full-length The Possessor Possesses Nothing appeared on Bedouin Records in 2019.
