" Nat King Cole laissa un héritage pianistique qui, sans qu'on lui rende toujours le crédit qui lui est dû, influença nombre de ses collègues pianistes. Son phrasé à la main droite, hérité de celui de Earl Hines mais qu'il articule plus délicatement, les ponctuations rythmiques de la main gauche qui doivent beaucoup à celle de Count Basie, l'inévitable sens de la courte paraphrase et de l'arabesque elliptique provenant de son talent d'acccompagnateur, se fondent harmonieusement dans son jeu soyeux d'une sensibilité cristalline. Si l'on connaît ses succès plébiscités à juste titre par le public, ses savoureux albums en trio ou accompagné de larges formations, on aura à cœur de découvrir le pianiste."
