Unfoonk
Unfoonk is an Atlanta, Georgia hip-hop artist with an expressive, heartfelt vocal style who began his career in late 2019. Born Quintavious Grier in the mid-'80s, he grew up in a household that clearly valued music, and this inspired his younger brother to establish a successful career as Young Thug in the 2010s and found the label YSL Records. When Unfoonk emerged from jail in October 2019, earlier than expected after being handed a life sentence in prison, he credited Young Thug for inspiring him to get his life back on track. Within a couple of months, he'd released a debut album, On the Way, and he went on to issue numerous singles on YSL in 2020. The pick of these was "MOB Ties," a collaborative effort with 24Heavy and Slimelife Shawty, which started to turn heads. It was eventually featured on 11 Years No Tears, his sophomore album and first long-player for YSL. April 2021 brought a significant boost to his profile when he contributed to "Real" -- along with five other tracks -- to Slime Language 2, a Young Thug- and Gunna-curated compilation album which shot to number one in the U.S. Capitalizing on this exposure, he released the mixtape My Struggle in June, a set which featured guest appearances from FN DaDealer and Lil Duke.
