The Echoing Green
New Mexico's the Echoing Green is a mercurial electronic pop duo specializing in hook-driven, emotionally charged industrial pop that burns as bright as it does smolder. The group emerged in the 1990s with a style that covered a wide swath of sonic real estate, from brooding, goth-tinged synth pop to gospel-tinged new wave and techno. As the decades progressed, so did the pair's hybrid sound, which added indie pop, electro-grunge, and industrial rock elements.
Founded in 1992 in Albuquerque by Joey Belville and reinforced by Chrissy Jeter, the duo's early influences, which include Depeche Mode and New Order, can be heard on 1994's Defend Your Joy and 1997's Hope Springs Eternal. Combining earworm hooks and dancefloor-ready beats, the Echoing Green continued to refine their sound in the 2000s on more stylistically complex efforts like Music from the Ocean Picture (2001), The Winter of Our Discontent (2003), and Songs of Innocence & Experience: Hope and Science (2006). 2020 saw the release of the career-spanning Violent Whispers: Songs & Secrets from the Echoing Green, which delivered remastered versions of material from 2002 through 2018. Three years later, the band issued the stand-alone single "Kisses 2 Chaos."
