Tanner Adell

Tanner Adell specializes in a bright, cheerful, and stylish fusion of country, pop, and hip-hop -- a blend she calls "glam country." Adell unveiled her glam country with 2021's insistent "Honky Tonk Heartbreak," but after "Love You a Little Bit" -- a single that took Shania Twain's adult contemporary country-pop into the 21st century -- became a viral hit in 2022, she seized the opportunity to broaden her musical horizons in 2023. "Buckle Bunny" found her playing with trap beats while the ballad "Luke Combs" was every bit as earnest as its namesake. Born in Kentucky, Tanner Adell was raised by her adoptive family in California's Manhattan Beach; her summers were spent on a ranch in Star Valley, Wyoming. Her parents had her model when she was not even a year old, and she continued to model and act into childhood while also cultivating a love for music. Keith Urban proved to be Adell's catalyst: after hearing his music, she taught herself how to play guitar, which swiftly led to her writing songs at an early age. At first, it wasn't clear that Adell would pursue music professionally. Raised as a Mormon (she spent two years on a mission in Stockholm before leaving the religion), she initially kept music private, but her mother pushed her to study commercial music at Utah Valley University. While enrolled at UVU, Adell received encouragement from her voice coach to head to Nashville. She made the move in 2021. Once she was in the Music City, she started to actively post her original material on social media, amassing followers on various platforms that helped lead to a record contract with Columbia Records. After releasing the singles "Honky Tonk Heartbreak" and "Country Girl Commandments" in 2021, she released the EP Last Call in 2022. Later that year, she put out "Love You a Little Bit," a chipper country-pop single that went viral in 2023. Adell responded to its success by releasing a flood of material in 2023. "I Hate Texas," "FU-150," and "Throw It Back" were all collected on the EP See You in Church. Within weeks of the EP's release, Adell issued "Trailer Park Barbie," a country-rap tune that interpolated Blackpink's "Ddu-Ddu Ddu-Du" and T.I.'s "U Don't Know Me" and was released just in time for Greta Gerwig's blockbuster movie Barbie. "Trailer Park Barbie" anchored a June 2023 EP of the same name that recycled the same material from See You in Church. A month later came Buckle Bunny, which expanded this material into an eight-song, 23-minute mini-LP featuring the new title track and "Bake It"; a deluxe version of Buckle Bunny brought the album up to 34 minutes and 11 songs. Buckle Bunny Stripped then arrived in October, offering six acoustic versions of songs from the album. "Hot Pink Christmas" came in time for the holiday season of 2023. Adell received a significant profile boost early in 2024 when Beyonce invited her to sing on a cover of the Beatles' "Blackbird" featured on the superstar's Cowboy Carter album.
