Spacecraft
The improvisational space music trio Spacecraft formed in 1996, when keyboardist/guitarist/artist Tony Gerber and keyboardist/composer John Rose became inspired by image and sound mappings from the space shuttle Voyager. The duo used the data to program new sounds for their synthesizers, and added vocalist/keyboardist Diane Timmons to help complete the project. The group released their self-title debut in 1997, which was released on the Nashville, TN-based Lektronic Soundscapes label. Their next album, 1998's Hummel:Live, was recorded live in Kentucky's Hummel Planetarium, and was followed the next year by Earthtime Tapestry. In addition to their work in Spacecraft, the trio pursues other electronic, musical and artistic projects; Gerber operates a multimedia art gallery and records as a solo artist, Rose also composes and performs as a solo artist, and Timmons works as a session vocalist. The group enjoys performing in architecturally curious venues, like planetariums and old churches, and they regularly release albums of their experimental new age between tours.
