Richard Chamberlain

Known primarily for his work in film and television, Richard Chamberlain was also a successful recording artist during the 1960s, offering up a string of hits in both the U.K. and the United States. Born in Beverly Hills, California in 1934, Chamberlain spent his formative years on the stage. He began appearing sporadically in television programs in the 1950s, but it wasn't until he landed the lead role in the popular television series Dr. Kildare in 1961 that he would become an international heartthrob. That reputation was bolstered the following year by the release of "Three Stars Will Shine Tonight," a vocal version of the program's theme song, which he performed. The song would become the first of four U.K. and U.S. Top 40 singles for the newly minted MOR crooner, with his debut album, Richard Chamberlain Sings, cracking the U.K. Top Ten. However, despite continuing to release singles, Chamberlain was unable to maintain the commercial heft of his debut, and he soon shifted his focus solely to television, film, and stage acting.
