Karl Engel
This superb pianist is known for his profound understanding of the music he plays, as well as for his ability to convey the composer's ideas to the listener in a convincing manner.
Engel studied with Swiss pianist Paul Baumgartner and the legendary Alfred Cortot in Paris. In 1952, he won second prize in the Concours Reine Elisabeth (Queen Elisabeth Competition) in Brussels. This marked the beginning of his successful international concert career in Europe.
His repertoire is primarily consists of German Classical and Romantic works. Engle is particularly interested in elucidating of the fundamental aspects of the compositions he performs, idenitifying, and mastering, technical obstacles merely as a starting point. Engel has performed with many well-known artists, including Pablo Casals, Yehudi Menuhin, Aurèle Nicolet, David Geringas, Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau, Hermann Prey, and for many years has provided the accompaniment for Peter Schreier's numerous concerts of Lieder.
