Jan Lundgren Trio

The Jan Lundgren Trio was formed in 1996. Founded by pianist Jan Lundgren - born March 22, 1966 – the trio’s original line up also included Mattias Svensson on bass and Rasmus Kihlbert on drums. Lundgren himself began studying the piano when he was five years old. Moving to Mälmo in 1986, he attended the Academy of Music, graduating in 1991. Lundgren would then work alongside many of Sweden’s leading artists including Dan Berglund, Lars Danielsson, Peter Asplund, Hans Backenroth, the Bonfiglioli Weber String Quartet, and others. His career as a band leader began in 1993 with Sugar Fingers (1993), Conclusion (1994), and dozens of other releases. He formed his own trio, who would release albums concurrently with Lundren’s own solo albums and collaborations. Making their official debut, the trio recorded two collaboration albums in 1996 – Stockholm Get-Together (with Herb Geller) and Perk Plays Prez (with Bill Perkins). They made their official debut as a trio in 1997 with the album Swedish Standards. Other albums by the Jan Lundgren Trio include A Touch of You (1998), For Listeners Only (2001), Svenska Landskap (2003), European Standards (2008), and Flowers of Sendai (2014). Jan Lundgren was named an International Steinway Artist in 2007.
