G.V. Prakash Kumar
G.V. Prakash Kumar – born in Madras, Tamil Nadu, India on June 13, 1987 – is a composer, producer, singer, and actor. He’s best known for his work in Tamil and Telugu cinema. Born into a musical family – his mother is playback singer A. R. Reihana and his uncle is composer A. R. Rahman - G.V. Prakash Kumar made his debut as a playback vocalist, singing one of his uncle’s compositions in the 1993 film Gentleman. He continued to work as a vocalist for his uncle and other film projects - including Anniyan (2005) and Unnale Unnale (2007) - but didn’t make his debut as a film composer until 2006’s Veyil. His popularity as a composer began to rise with his work on the movies Madrasapattinam (2010), Aayirathil Oruvan (2010), Mayakkam Enna (2011), and many others. Although G.V. Prakash Kumar had made a few cameos in films beginning in 2008, his first starring role was in 2015’s Darling. He then acted in nearly two dozen films over the next six years. While acting kept him busy, he still focused most of his time on composition, continuing to write music for films such as Bruce Lee (2017), Semma (2018), Vanakkam Da Mappilei (2020), and Jail (2021). His prolific career rolled on into 2022 with the song “Yelammaa Yela” featured in the film Yaanai. With his very one production company - G.V. Prakash Kumar Productions (established in 2013) – he remains a prolific composer and producer.
