Chrome Canyon
An avid synth collector inspired by '80s soundtracks such as Blade Runner and Tron, Morgan Z makes retro-flavored electronica under the moniker Chrome Canyon. His debut album, Elemental Themes, was released by Stones Throw in 2012, just as the synthwave scene was emerging and expanding. After composing music for the animated series Infinity Train, Chrome Canyon returned with his second full-length, Director, in 2022.
In the late 2000s, Morgan Z studied jazz at N.Y.C.'s New School and played in the glam electro group Apes & Androids while working a part-time job at a Sam Ash music store and building up a collection of analog keyboards. Following some work as a remix artist, he got his big break when he signed to the ultra-hip Stones Throw label in 2012. That year, he released his instrumental debut, Elemental Themes. A set of remixes followed in 2013, as well as an EP titled Body Music. Morgan moved to California and performed a live score for Fritz Lang's Metropolis at a film festival, then composed the music for the Cartoon Network/HBO Max series Infinity Train for four seasons. A decade after his debut, Chrome Canyon reappeared on Stones Throw with the 2022 full-length Director.
