Mit Urban Hymns, das im September 1997 während eines Britpop-Wirbelsturms erscheint, überzeugen The Verve mit Luxus, Eleganz und Raffinesse. Mit der zeitlosen Single Bittersweet Symphony und dem ebenso zeitlosen Streich-Cover von The Last Time der Rolling Stones treffen die Musiker genau den richtigen Nerv! Urban Hymns ist mit seiner romantischen Grundhaltung eines dieser unübertrefflichen Alben, denen die Zeit nichts anhaben kann. Mit Urban Hymns, das im September 1997 während eines Britpop-Wirbelsturms erscheint, überzeugen The Verve mit Luxus, Eleganz und Raffinesse. Mit der zeitlosen Single Bittersweet Symphony und dem ebenso zeitlosen Streich-Cover von The Last Time der Rolling Stones treffen die Musiker genau den richtigen Nerv! Eine interessante musikalische Annäherungsweise, die die Bande um Richard Ashcroft aber dennoch niemals daran hindert, wahrhaftige Popmusik zu schreiben. Aber eben in einer anspruchsvollen Version, mit himmlischen und vergoldeten Arrangements. Ein paar Geigen hier, ein paar Balladen da.
