22 Jahre nach seiner Ersterscheinung taucht The Healing Game in seiner ganzen Pracht und Herrlichkeit wieder aus der Versenkung auf. Diese im März 2019 auf dem Markt erschienene, 3CDs umfassende Deluxe Edition enthält das Originalalbum sowie etwa 30 unveröffentlichte Titel aus den Jahren 1995/1997. Das fängt an mit Alternative Takes, geht weiter mit Live-Mitschnitten und reicht hin bis zu im Duett entstandenen Stücken. Die erste Platte enthält die zehn ursprünglichen Songs sowie fünf Bonuszusätze. Auf der zweiten Platte stehen die Sessions und Kooperationen im Mittelpunkt, insbesondere die ersten Versionen von The Healing Game und Fire in the Belly, fünf Titel mit Carl Perkins und zwei weitere mit John Lee Hooker. Die letzte und dritte Platte ist ein in der Schweiz, beim Festival in Montreux am 17. Juli 1997 aufgezeichnetes Konzert… Als im März 1997 The Healing Game auf den Markt kommt, ist Van Morrison 52 Jahre alt, er kann etwa zwanzig Soloalben verbuchen, von denen gewisse inzwischen als wahre Meisterwerke in die Geschichte der Rockmusik eingegangen sind, etwa Astral Weeks (1968), Moondance (1970) oder Veedon Fleece (1974). Diese Wunder wiederholen sich zwar nicht, aber dem irischen Barden gelingt hier einmal mehr der Beweis, dass er ein wirklich einzigartiger Sänger und Autor ist. Wenn er seine Stimme direkt in seinen unnachahmlichen, aus Folk und Jazz gemixten Cocktail seiner Seele taucht, kann man davon einfach nicht genug bekommen. Und die zwei Jahrzehnte, die zwischen der Ersterscheinung des ursprünglichen Albums und dieser Neuausgabe liegen, bieten einigen Leuten die Gelegenheit, auf dieses Werk, das einem unter die Haut geht, einen neuen Blick zu werfen. © Max Dembo/Qobuz
