Gordon's late-'50s and early-'60s Vee Jay sessions have been treasured collector's items for years, and this new disc features 16 selections (half previously unissued in America). The revival of "No More Doggin" was even closer to ska than the original, with Gordon smoothly angling in on the offbeat. Gordon remains a hero in Jamaica for his influence on ska and bluebeat; it's great to have these recordings available once more.
