Victoria Canal

A singer and songwriter of intimate, earnest pop, Victoria Canal complements her appealing melodies with a delivery that's parts sweet and soulful. Years of formal music study prepared her for a steady rise in esteem through a series of early EPs, including 2016's Into the Pull, her self-released teenaged debut, and 2022's Elegy, her major-label debut. Following a warm reception for 2023's WELL WELL EP, she made her full-length debut with Chamomile in 2024. Although born in Munich, Germany, Canal spent parts of her childhood Shanghai, Tokyo, Dubai, Barcelona, Madrid, and Amsterdam. However, her heritage is American and Cuban, and she considers herself Spanish-American, having spent the majority of her childhood in Spain. Due to amniotic band syndrome, she was born without a right forearm, but that didn't stop her from studying classical piano and voice from the age of six. Inspired by musicians including John Mayer, she started writing songs at 11, competed in local and school music competitions, and began booking her own shows by her early teens. She was awarded a full scholarship to a Berklee College of Music summer program on the strength of a demo she cut in Dubai at age 13. She was 14 when the family moved to Barcelona; she enrolled at a jazz conservatory there and spent a second summer in Boston at Berklee. When she was 16, she and her mother relocated to Atlanta, where her vocal coach was located, so she could book her first U.S. shows and record her debut EP, early 2016's Into the Pull. Canal was living in New York when an invitation to write and record with Michael Franti in Nashville came through in 2018. The session was followed by the opportunity to join Franti's 2019 world tour. In the meantime, she released singles that would appear on her 2020 EP Victoria, including "Drama," a song that became part of a campaign for a major sneaker brand's line for athletes with disabilities. The EP arrived on Lucky Clara Entertainment that August. Following support slots for Emily King, Leslie Odom, Jr., Tall Heights, and others, her third EP, the more intimate Elegy, marked her Parlophone debut in September 2022. Still with Parlophone, August 2023's WELL WELL EP featured collaborations with Madison Cunningham and S. Carey. That year also saw Canal win the Ivor Novello Rising Star Award, and she toured the U.K. and Europe in support of Hozier. In early 2024, she returned with "Chamomile" in advance of a headlining tour of the U.S. It was the title track from her full-length debut, which followed that August.
