The Fauntleroys

A collaboration between four well-respected rock & roll mavericks, the Fauntleroys play music that's at once literate and streetwise, full of big-city swagger and high-attitude guitars alongside lyrics that are clever, passionate, and tough at the same time. The Fauntleroys feature Alejandro Escovedo, who was in Rank & File and the True Believers before launching a successful solo career, on vocals and bass; Ivan Julian, a guitarist known for his work with Richard Hell, Matthew Sweet, and Shriekback, on vocals and guitar; Nicholas Tremulis, a respected rock and R&B artist who has also worked with Keith Richards, Marianne Faithfull, and Ian Hunter, on guitar and vocals; and Linda Pitmon, of Zuzu's Petals and Steve Wynn & the Miracle 3, on drums and vocals. Escovedo, Julian, and Tremulis were longtime friends who had only rarely crossed paths creatively when Tremulis suggested they should get together at Julian's New York City recording studio, N.Y. Hed, and work on some songs. Escovedo and Julian both suggested Pitmon would be a good choice to play drums, and in early 2014 the four met at N.Y. Hed; four days later, they had written and recorded five original songs, and also recorded a raucous version of the Incredible String Band's "Chinese White." The foursome took the name the Fauntleroys in honor of Escovedo, Julian, and Tremulis' elegant taste in clothes, and the group made its live debut at the 2014 South by Southwest Music Conference. The group struck a deal with Plowboy Records, a new independent label founded by legendary guitarist Cheetah Chrome, and the results of the group's first recording sessions were released as an EP, Below the Pink Pony, in September 2014.
