Marino De Rosas
Sardinian-born, flamenco guitarist Marino de Rosas first picked up the instrument at the age of 14. By the early '60s, he joined his first band, the Devils, inspired by such hitmakers as the Shadows, the Ventures, and of course, the Beatles. The band released several singles and appeared in the obscure movie Per un Pugno Di Canzoni, but in 1969, de Rosas left the band to concentrate more on being with his family and to pursue a profession in geometrics. de Rosas didn't abandon the guitar entirely, though, as he formed other bands during the '70s, including O.K. and La Sintesi. Subsequently, de Rosas began to shift his focus entirely to classical and flamenco guitar, two styles that center primarily on fingerpicking. After appearing on numerous compilations over the years, de Rosas issued his first solo recording in 2001, titled Meridies, on the Amiata label.
