Karima Walker
Tucson, Arizona interdisciplinary artist Karima Walker walks a line between two worlds. Aside from her long resume of collaborative work with artists in the diverse fields of dance, sculpture, film, photography and creative non-fiction, Walker has long nurtured a duality within her work as a musician, developing her own sonic language as a sound designer in tandem with her craft as a singer/songwriter.
The polarity within Walker’s music has never been so articulately explored, or graced with as much intention, as on her most recent album, Waking the Dreaming Body, and 2022’s collection of sketches and demos simply titled demos.
The album was released in February 2021 to critical acclaim. Uncut called it“alluringly idiosyncratic,” MOJO heralded it as “both welcome comfort and a surprising joy,” and Various Small Flames called it “sublime.” Joyzine described it as “an opulent reverie that folds dreams into reality and compels us to slow down and be in the moment.” For TheRabbits called it “a record for the ages” and Secret Meeting wrote, “A journey through light, dark, and the blurriness in between–from a songwriter in control.”
