Joel Katz

New Jersey singer and producer Joel Katz has had a lifelong love affair with the vocal group harmonies of the doo wop era, and has tirelessly promoted the genre as well as bringing his own high, clear tenor to bear on a series of contemporary recordings that carry on the tradition, often under the name Joel & the Dymensions (he has also sung lead with a number of other groups, including the Del-Satins, the Autumns, the Wizards, and the Platinums). Katz started his singing career while he was still in high school, forming his first group, Joel & the Conchords, when he was just 13. He also sang with the Belevederes and the Butanes while he was a high school student, and shortly after leaving school he joined the Autumns. For a time he was the singing voice for the dancing bear character on TV's Captain Kangaroo. Tireless in his devotion to doo wop and the vocal group tradition, he opened his own studio in Fair Lawn, NJ, in 1977. He continues to record and sing with several different vocal groups.
