Garren Sean

Bay Area musician Garren Sean was active as a producer when he began releasing catchy, stripped-down R&B pop songs under his own name. His earliest work included producing tracks for rappers Towkio, Joey Purp, and most notably, crafting the bubbly funk beat of "Smoke Break" from Chance the Rapper's Grammy-winning 2016 mixtape Coloring Book. His 2017 debut Garren, LP was a colorful haze of psychedelic soul and electronically rendered R&B daydreams and produced the viral single "There She Go." Sean grew up in a highly musical household, his father working in production and both parents playing a wide range of music during his childhood. At age ten he began playing violin but soon gave it up for guitar when he fell in love with the sounds of classic rock, funk, and soul. He taught himself both guitar and production, making his own beats and working on developing a sound that drew on his diverse influences. After working with a handful of well-known rappers, Sean began sculpting his own songs, issuing his debut album Garren, LP in 2017. He followed up the next year with the seven-song Sundrip EP, continuing the exploration of his psych-informed R&B songwriting.
