Renan Luce est un habile fabricant de chansons modestes et touchantes, qui sont très souvent l’occasion de raconter de petites histoires cocasses. L’un des précédents singles de l’auteur-compositeur-interprète (On n’est pas à une bêtise près) avait d’ailleurs été utilisé pour la sortie de l’adaptation cinématographique du Petit Nicolas – ce qui ne surprend guère car il y a sans conteste une parenté d’esprit entre Luce et l’humour pastel de Sempé. C’est pourquoi la surprise est de taille lorsqu’on découvre ce 4e album, pour lequel Renan Luce a choisi non seulement une voie musicale plus ample, mais aussi des thématiques plus sombres. Certes, le sourire du chanteur n’est jamais totalement absent, mais Luce se fait plus doux-amer que d’habitude (Berlin) et se pose un certain nombre de questions existentielles (Au début). Il tend sans cesse à retrouver une légèreté perdue (Du Champagne à quinze heures), et se plonge corps et âme dans une nostalgie attendrissante (Enfants des champs).
Quant à la musique, elle renforce précisément ce rapport particulier au passé, non seulement parce que cette esthétique orchestrale rappelle celle de la grande variété française d’une autre époque (celle d’Aznavour, Brel ou Michel Legrand), mais le choix de certains instruments solistes renforce également cette tendre désuétude, en particulier le piano et l’accordéon (Cette Musique, Citadin). Dans le même esprit, on remarque également une propension aux rythmiques latines, notamment dans un morceau où l’humour de Renan Luce revient en force – le délicieux Dans de beaux draps. Chronique
Renan Luce est un habile fabricant de chansons modestes et touchantes, qui sont très souvent l’occasion de raconter de petites histoires cocasses. L’un des précédents singles de l’auteur-compositeur-interprète (On n’est pas à une bêtise près) avait d’ailleurs été utilisé pour la sortie de l’adaptation cinématographique du Petit Nicolas – ce qui ne surprend guère car il y a sans conteste une parenté d’esprit entre Luce et l’humour pastel de Sempé. C’est pourquoi la surprise est de taille lorsqu’on découvre ce 4e album, pour lequel Renan Luce a choisi non seulement une voie musicale plus ample, mais aussi des thématiques plus sombres. Certes, le sourire du chanteur n’est jamais totalement absent, mais Luce se fait plus doux-amer que d’habitude (Berlin) et se pose un certain nombre de questions existentielles (Au début). Il tend sans cesse à retrouver une légèreté perdue (Du Champagne à quinze heures), et se plonge corps et âme dans une nostalgie attendrissante (Enfants des champs).
Quant à la musique, elle renforce précisément ce rapport particulier au passé, non seulement parce que cette esthétique orchestrale rappelle celle de la grande variété française d’une autre époque (celle d’Aznavour, Brel ou Michel Legrand), mais le choix de certains instruments solistes renforce également cette tendre désuétude, en particulier le piano et l’accordéon (Cette Musique, Citadin). Dans le même esprit, on remarque également une propension aux rythmiques latines, notamment dans un morceau où l’humour de Renan Luce revient en force – le délicieux Dans de beaux draps.
