Il y a toujours eu un côté nostalgique aux travaux de The Gaslight Anthem, et ce ne serait pas leur faire injure que d'affirmer qu'ils ont notamment toujours gardé un œil dans le rétroviseur en direction d'un certain Bruce Springsteen, haute figure du New Jersey dont ils sont issus. Sur Get Hurt, son cinquième effort, le groupe élargit pourtant ses horizons, puisant plus largement dans le legs des années 70, ouvrant l'album avec un "Stay Vicious" au riff sorti tout droit des annales du rock et donnant d'office le ton du changement. Le coeur de l'affaire, cette sensibilité épidermique héritée du Boss, ne change pas, si bien que chercher les emprunts à telles ou telles formations du passé ne ferait qu'éloigner du véritable sujet, cette émotion elle-même.
