Devenu l'équivalent de la variété internationale pour la génération deux-mille-dix, le rap electro pop dance est un réservoir naturel de nouveaux talents. Particulièrement en Angleterre où cette tendance dérivée du dubstep et du garage UK, a déjà fourni des artistes comme Tinie Tempah ou Professor Green.
A la fois compositeur, producteur, et artiste, Labrinth n'a pas tardé à se faire sa place dans ce mouvement qui dicte désormais sa loi aux radios et aux télévisions. Son premier album Electronic Earth est un condensé de ce style et de son fidèle allié le logiciel Auto-Tune.
Labrinth délivre sa leçon en dix titres et déjà trois tubes anglais, « Let the Sun Shine », « Earthquake », et « Last Time ». L'ensemble est encore rehaussé par la présence de Emeli Sandé sur le duo « Beneath Your Beautiful » qui rayon sucreries ne craint pas le plus chargé du R&B. Electronic Earth est une machine bien rodée, sans aspérités, et qui délivre une muzak convenue et convenable.
Sans même schématiser et sans grand risque de se tromper, on peut dire que Labrinth est le pendant anglais à l'Américain Jason Derülo. Il en fallait bien un.
