Onda Vaselina
OV7 is a popular and long-running pop music group from Mexico. Formed in 1989 under the name La Onda Vaselina, the group initially comprised child members and was inspired by the 1980s pop group Timbiriche. Led by Mexican singer and producer Julissa, they made an early impact with their debut album La Onda Vaselina (1989), featuring hits like "Que Buen Reventón" and "Que Triste Es el Primer Adios." Their subsequent albums Onda Vaselina, Vol. 2 (1991) and Dulces Para Ti (1992) solidified their popularity in Mexico. They rebranded to Onda Vaselina (removing the "La" from their name) in 1995 and continued their string of successes with albums such as Entrega Total (1997). This album included the mega-hit "Te Quiero Tanto, Tanto," which would become one of the group's signature songs. In the late 1990s, now comprised of seven adult members, the group changed its name to OV7. The new name was also due to legal issues around the original title. In 2000, the band released CD00, selling 2 million copies in Mexico and achieving Number 1 status across Latin America. Around that time, OV7 were invited to contribute to the 2002 FIFA World Cup Official Album. The group disbanded in 2003 but reunited in 2010 with five original members: Mariana Ochoa, Ari Borovoy, Érika Zaba, Lidia Avila, and Oscar Schwebel. They have since released albums such as Forever 7 (2012) and A Tu Lado (2013). They have also recorded live albums, including Primera Fila (2010) and OV7 & Kabah: En Vivo (2015).
