Slow Pulp

The indie rock band Slow Pulp hails from Madison, Wisconsin, where the American group was formed in 2015 by childhood friends Alex Leeds, Teddy Mathews, and Henry Stoehr. As a trio, Slow Pulp debuted with a self-released EP, EP1, in 2015, followed by another self-released project, EP2, in 2017. EP2 also marked the band's expansion to a four-piece lineup, thanks to the addition of vocalist and guitarist Emily Massey. Slow Pulp released one final EP as an independent band, 2019's Big Day, before signing with the label Winspear. Now based in Chicago, the group began recording a full-length album, Moveys, the initial version of which was entirely scrapped and rewritten about Slow Pulp's frontwoman, Massey, was diagnosed with mononucleosis and Lyme disease. The Covid-19 pandemic prolonged those recording sessions, allowing Slow Pulp more time to fine-tune the album. Moveys was eventually released in late 2020, with bandmate Henry Stoehr pulling double-duty as the group's guitar player and producer. The group resumed its national touring schedule one year later. Although Slow Pulp remained on the Winspear roster for the release of another EP, Deleted Scenes, in 2021, the band began attracting attention from other labels and soon signed with the reputable indie label Anti-. Yard, Slow Pulp's sophomore album, was released by Anti- in September 2023. "Doubt," the album's most successful single, became the band's first Top 40 hit, reaching number 40 on the Radio Adult Alternative Songs chart in November of that year.
