Ole Rasmussen

One of the more original bands from the post-war era, Ole Rasmussen & His Nebraska Cornhuskers produced a series of Western swing hits in the '40s and early '50s. With a sound that took a lot from the music from Bob Wills, the band was not based out of Nebraska as their name would seem to indicate, but instead was from California. Rasmussen was not much of a musician, but he was an excellent businessman and bandleader. He also knew a talented musician when he saw one and assembled one of the finest bands in the L.A. area. Teddy Wilds, and later Virgil Lee, provided vocals, Tex Atchison and Rocky Stone were on fiddles, Billy Tonnesen was on steel guitar, and Earl Finley was on electric guitar. The band's most prolific period came from 1950-1952, when they were signed to the Capitol label. After that period, their career quickly declined, and they had no more major hits.
