Nelson Riveros
Nelson Riveros is a jazz guitarist, composer, and arranger born in New York City to Colombian parents. In addition to being well versed in the jazz guitar tradition, he possesses an exceptional knowledge of Latin and Brazilian song forms, folk dances, popular music, and even classical composition, all of which are brought to bear in his playing and composing approaches.
His 2010 debut, Camino al Barrio, made the world music and jazz charts, and was nominated for several awards. After a decade playing with his group at top-shelf NYC clubs including The Iridium, Zinc Bar, 55 Bar, La Lanterna/Bar Next Door, and Minton's, as well as at regional festivals, he signed to Zoho Records in 2019. Riveros assembled a quintet that included Grammy-nominated pianist Hector Martignon, along with bassist Andy McKee, drummer Mark Walker, and percussionist Jonathan Gomez to record The Latin Side of Wes Montgomery. Released in February 2021, the set reimagined -- sometimes radically -- the legendary guitarist's tunes through the prismatic lens of Latin and Brazilian rhythm and harmony.
