carolesdaughter

The lyrically unfiltered, goth-inspired alternative pop of carolesdaughter was the creation of post-rehab teen Thea Taylor. The songwriter and multi-instrumentalist struck certified gold with her major-label debut, the self-contradicting "Violent," which explored a toxic relationship with acoustic guitar and simple bedroom beats in 2020. She followed it with a string of multi-million streamers, including a cover of Radiohead's "Creep," leading up to the arrival of her debut EP, please put me in a medically induced coma, in 2022. Raised in Oceanside, California, in a strict Mormon household as the youngest of ten siblings, Thea ("Tay-ah") Taylor felt like an outsider from an early age and was drawn to punk, hardcore, and goth music after spotting a Black Flag logo tattoo and looking into what it was. She went on to attend no less than five different high schools while experimenting with drugs and making multiple trips to rehab. Taylor threw herself into making music upon her return, calling herself carolesdaughter, after her mother's actual name. She soon made waves online with candid pop-punk songs like "my mother wants me dead" and "cold bathroom floor." Signing with Arista Records (Sony), carolesdaughter made her major-label debut at the age of 18 with "Violent" in November 2020. By early 2021, the song had hit the Top Ten of Billboard's Hot Alternative Songs chart and the Top 30 of Canada's rock chart; it eventually achieved gold certification. Her debut EP, please put me in a medically induced coma, was released on Arista in April 2022. She followed it with a tour in support of nothing, nowhere. as well as her first headlining dates in the U.K.
