Schneider Kacirek

German electronica duo Schneider Kacirek comprise seasoned boundary-pushing musicians Stefan Schneider on bass and an arsenal of electronics and Sven Kacirek on percussion. Schneider spent years collaborating with members of Cluster, Neu!, Faust, and other founding fathers of Krautrock, as well as working closely on projects with Arto Lindsay, Saint Etienne, and the Pastels. Apart from that, he helped found indie electronic trendsetting bands To Rococo Rot and Kreidler. Kacirek released several solo albums but also collaborated with improvisers and electronic musicians like Hauschka and Marc Ribot. Before forming Schneider Kacirek as a proper entity, the two musicians traveled to Kenya, where they collected field recordings of traditional music, releasing their raw documents on albums such as 2013's Mukunguni: New Recordings from Coast Province, Kenya. Inspired to the point of obsession with these African traditions, the duo began integrating influences of the tribal rhythms they'd collected into darker electronic templates. Highly percussive and cloaked in the mystery of minimal techno at times, the duo released their aptly named debut, Shadows Documents, in early 2015. On one track, the album included percussion by guest artist Nicholas Addo-Nettey, a former member of Fela Kuti & Africa 70. The duo's second album, Radius Walk, arrived in 2017; three songs featured vocals by Sofia Jernberg.
