This is a series of duets by two perfectly matched players. The opening title track is a co-written tour-de-force that finds Waldron's moody chords setting up the architecture into which Friesen's bowed bass flies floats, sounding like a flute. From there they hop over to a spirited take of "All God's Chillun Got Rhythm" and then a richly emotional version of Rodgers & Hart's "It Never Entered My Mind." Waldron and Friesen each wrote two tunes performed here. Both musicians are sensitive to the piece's core identity. The piano patterns on Friesen's "Tapestry" are an integral part of the composition, truly conjuring up the mechanics of a detailed weaving. "Batik" is a piece for solo bass and its folk-like bearing closes the album on a warm and resonant note.
