L'auteur-compositeur-interprète Nick Drake est l'un des artistes qui a le plus contribué à l'essor de la scène folk-rock britannique du début des années 70. La plupart de ses chansons sont empreintes d'une mélancolie baroque qui a fini par être consacrée par le temps. Sous-estimées de son vivant mais vénérées aujourd'hui, ses chansons débordent d'émerveillement et d'obscurité, tour à tour pastorales, romantiques et mystérieuses. Bien que la voix chaude de baryton de Nick Drake et sa guitare acoustique jouée au doigt soient des ingrédients simples, ses chansons recèlent une complexité luxuriante et une magie élégante dont le charme n'a fait que jeter une ombre plus grande et plus hantée depuis sa disparition prématurée et cimenter son statut d'icône.
