Sometymes Why
Formed in 2005 around the talents of Kristin Andreassen (vocals, harmonica, guitar, glockenspiel, tambourine), Aoife O'Donovan (voice, baritone ukulele, Wurlitzer, piano, guitar, soprano ukulele, glockenspiel) and Ruth Ungar Merenda (voice, fiddle, soprano ukulele, guitar, baritone ukulele, glockenspiel), contemporary/neo-traditional folk trio Sometymes Why came to fruition from the cradle of a handful of other bands, including Uncle Earl, the Jolly Bankers (Andreassen), Crooked Still, the Wild Band of Snee, the Wayfaring Strangers (O'Donovan) the Mammals and Jay Ungar & Molly Mason's Family Band (Merenda). The group's heady blend of Americana, old-timey/alternative country and alternative folk first appeared on 2005's eponymous, self-released Sometymes Why, followed by Your Heart Is a Glorious Machine in 2009.
