Marcin Wasilewski Trio
Polish pianist and composer Marcin Wasilewski was born in Slawno, Zachodnipomorskie, Poland in 1975. He formed a trio with two classmates - Sławomir Kurkiewicz (double bass) and Michał Miśkiewicz (drums) - who he had met while attending music high school. Mentored by trumpeter Tomasz Stańko, the group of musicians originally called themselves the Simple Acoustic Trio. Marcin Wasilewski and his band mates blended traditional and contemporary jazz and became one of the most acclaimed jazz trios in Polish history. Their debut album as the Simple Acoustic Trio, Komeda, was released in 1995, followed quickly by two albums in 1996: When Will the Blues Leave? and the live album XX Festival Internacional de Jazz de Getxo. The album Habanera was released in 2000 and the next year, they collaborated with Polish saxophonist Henryk Miśkiewicz on the album Lyrics (2001). Their final album as the Simple Acoustic Trio was 2005’s Trio album, which served as the transition album between the old band name and their current name , the Marcin Wasilewski Trio. January (2008) was the band’s first album under the new name and it was followed by Faithful (2011), Spark of Life with Joakim Milder (2014), Live (2018) and Arctic Riff with Joe Lovano (2020).
