Krisanthi Pappas

Krisanthi Pappas is one of several good jazz singers who have made the New England area their jazz base during the 1980's and 1990's. Having studied fundamental music, theory, education and voice and piano at such prestigious institutions as Boston Conservatory of Music, Berklee College of Music and Princeton University, Pappas began performing in community theaters in the 1970's. Her first professional gig was at a Brockton supper club singing easy listening and show tunes. From the early 1980's to 1996 she and her "Moondance" band have performed throughout the United States and in the Caribbean in hotels, festivals and on cruise ships. Following a shift of her performing focus from rock/pop to cabaret and jazz Pappas started performing regularly at Boston's Schullers Jazz Club and at Cambridge's Regattabar Club. In 1997 she recorded her first album, a tribute to George Gershwin for Magnetic Music. This release establishes her as an exuberant and sensitive interpreter of the classic music of George and Ira Gershwin. The album also sets off her song writing skills. Pappas continues to perform at clubs in and around Boston and at jazz and blues festivals where she has opened for Chuck Magione. She works regularly with the John Payne Band, spends winters performing on the Caribbean island of Nevis and gives private lessons in music theory, voice and piano.
