Depuis l’Australie, plus exactement Melbourne, Josh et Sam Teskey, autour de qui est bâti le groupe The Teskey Brothers, perpétuent l’héritage sonore d’une scène soul sixties auparavant représentée par Otis Redding ou Wilson Pickett. Sur ce troisième album, The Winding Day, la filiation comme l’hommage sont évidents. Rayonnent les guitares tordues et expressives, presque blues, sublimées par des cuivres optimistes, dans une classicisme sudiste américain diablement maîtrisé. Il y a peu d’artifices, peu d’effets de style, jusqu’à ce que, d’un coup, de grandes orchestrations de cordes viennent illuminer le superbe titre Take My Heart. Ils savent également se détacher des formats habituels pour laisser poindre encore plus l’émotion, comme avec Blind Without You, ballade poignante qui contribue à faire de The Winding Day certainement le meilleur album de la jeune formation. © Brice Miclet/Qobuz
