Il est clair que les métalleux et les fans de musique classique étaient préparés à passer une soirée très spéciale lorsque Metallica et l'orchestre symphonique de San Francisco ont joué ensemble au Berkeley Community Theater. "The Call of Ktulu", qui n'avait jamais été joué sur scène auparavant, était destiné à faire ses débuts de cette façon. La profondeur de l'instrumental épique est renforcée par les partitions emphatiques de Michael Kamen, qui réussit à apporter une nouvelle approche au travail du groupe, comme il l'avait déjà fait sur l'album éponyme de Metallica de 1991. Il en va de même pour le grand classique de speed metal "Master of Puppets". "Hero of the Day" fonctionne très bien, avec son ton mélodique souligné par l'orchestre. Et l'hymne contre la guerre "One" semble avoir été créé pour recevoir le traitement d'un orchestre classique.
