Premier album studio de Lynyrd Skynnyrd après presque huit ans d’existence sans enregistrements, Pronounced leh-‘nérd ‘skin-nérd annonce ce qui aurait dû être la composition idéale, pour ne pas dire définitive du groupe : Ronnie Van Zant au chant, Gary Rossington, Allen Collins, Ed King aux guitares, Billy Powell au claviers, Bob Burns à la batterie et Leon Wilkeson à la basse.
Après avoir beaucoup tâtonné, Lynyrd Skynyrd avait enfin trouvé son style, mêlant rock lourd et country dans un style bien personnel, qui sera à l’origine du mouvement « rock sudiste ». Considéré comme l’un des 500 meilleurs albums de tous les temps par le magazine Rolling Stone, Pronounced leh-‘nérd ‘skin-nérd permettait à un groupe unique de percer en dehors des quelques Etats de l’ancienne Confédération.
