De par ses multiples oeuvres, John Ottman a montré qu'aucun genre musical ne lui était étranger. Compositeur attitré du réalisateur Bryan Singer, pour qui il a écrit les musiques d'Usual Suspects ou X-Men 2, et parfois monté ou produit un de ses films, il a contribué à des films de genres bien différents, avec une prédilection pour le genre fantastique.
Cette fois, John Ottman s'attaque à la science-fiction par le biais du film Astro Boy de David Powers, réalisé d'après le manga Astro le petit robot du Japonais Osamu Tezuka. Cette nouvelle partition, découpé en vingt et une séquences, montre le travail très classique et abouti du compositeur.
Malgré des qualités indéniables, il est seulement à regretter l'absence de thèmes porteurs qui font la marque des grands noms du genre.
