You really have to hand it to Puerto Rican pop star Chayanne; he certainly knows how to awaken waves of fervent desire in the hearts of his shrieking female audience. A talented singer, dancer, and actor, he has devoted his considerable talents and undeniable charisma to the world of slickly produced, Afro-Cuban-inflected Latin pop, becoming one of the genre's most cherished young figures.
VOLVER A NACER finds a revitalized Chayanne returning to his Puerto Rican roots on "Guajira," an explosive slice of salsified pop, complete with a spicy piano solo by Steve Roitstein. Less traditional but equally convincing is "Baila Baila," a hyperkinetic disco anthem that praises the joys of reckless dancing and has become a staple in Chayanne's sumptuous live act. But the singer's repertoire is not all about frivolous dancing. A moving ballad, "Solo Pienso en Ti" tells the story of a love affair between a man and a woman, both of them handicapped. Chayanne sings it with enough pathos to make even the toughest of hearts melt.
