Premier album, première révélation éclatante de cette musique inédite, mélange de rock et de poésie. Dès « Break On Through » la voie est tracée : passer de l'autre coté...
Si « Light My Fire » sera le tube qui consacrera le groupe à l'état de star, le reste de l'album rassemble les titres parmi les tous meilleurs de The Doors. L'onde souterraine de « Crystal Ship », les beat lourds de « Soul Kitchen » et « Twentiest Century Fox », la découverte du Morrison guttural et sensuel de « Backdoor Man », qui deviendra un hymne de concert, l'étrangeté d'« End Of The Night », tout est ambiances fortes et fascination. Jusqu'à l'expressionnisme Allemand d'« Alabama Song » (l'univers de Brecht, Lou Reed et David Bowie suivront) et enfin et surtout le chef-d’œuvre oedipien et hypnotique « The End », faisant vibrer la corde intime et profonde jusqu'à la transe.
Un des rares album dont l'emprise reste intacte à travers le temps, la jeunesse aux portes d'Eden.

Premier album, première révélation éclatante de cette musique inédite, mélange de rock et de poésie. Dès « Break On Through » la voie est tracée : passer de l'autre coté...
Si « Light My Fire » sera le tube qui consacrera le groupe à l'état de star, le reste de l'album rassemble les titres parmi les tous meilleurs de The Doors. L'onde souterraine de « Crystal Ship », les beat lourds de « Soul Kitchen » et « Twentiest Century Fox », la découverte du Morrison guttural et sensuel de « Backdoor Man », qui deviendra un hymne de concert, l'étrangeté d'« End Of The Night », tout est ambiances fortes et fascination.
