Sheezus, le dernier album de Lily Allen sorti en 2014, n’était pas vraiment une réussite. Mais cela n’a pas eu un grand impact sur la Britannique qui a bien changé entre-temps. Bye bye cheveux noir rock’n’roll, la punk blond platine s’impose ! No Shame porte bien son nom. Allen aurait-elle retrouvé son côté rebelle et confectionné un album centré sur elle-même ? La tête haute et bien dans sa peau, elle déclenche une bombe émotionnelle dont elle semble plutôt fière. Cette œuvre autobiographique relate d’un point de vue assez féministe la séparation de ses parents mais aussi la sienne, ces moments douloureux où il faut reprendre du poil de la bête. Empruntant des sonorités africaines et une once d’Auto-Tune, Your Choice présente une nouvelle Lily Allen aux côtés de Burna Boy. Une envie de danser en haussant les épaules l’air de dire : on se quitte mais au fond, je m’en fiche. Mais elle est vite rattrapée par la réalité et se montre touchante sur Apples où elle dévoile des pages de son intimité. Lily Allen évoque alors le souvenir du divorce de ses parents par sa voix fluette sur quelques accords plaqués en toute simplicité. Puis c’est le sien qu’elle met en avant avec son désir de ne faire souffrir personne qu’elle contre en qualifiant la chose de cliché.
