For many fans of Contemporary Christian Music, one of the worst sins a favorite CCM artist can commit is to "go secular." An even more loathsome counterpart to "selling out" (traditional rock music's ultimate offense), the phrase implies a conscious watering down of worship themes in order to reach a wider audience. In extreme cases, lyrics are written in a kind of Jesus code, which allows them to be easily interpreted as a tribute to either the Creator or the opposite sex, depending on the listener's inclination. Luckily for those who prefer their praise and worship straight up and in your face, there are Phillips, Craig & Dean. Over the course of a decade, the trio has consistently remained one of the most overtly religious of Christian pop acts, while simultaneously staking a claim as one of the most modern sounding. Sonically, there is little difference between LET YOUR GLORY FALL and the best work of secular soft-rockers like Duncan Sheik or Paula Cole; the record is full of ringing guitars, funky rhythms and exquisite vocal harmonies swathed in the most immaculate production values this side of Phil Collins. In fact, any listener with a taste for smooth sounds and killer hooks would do well to put aside his/her prejudices and revel in Phillips, Craig & Dean's pop perfection.
