La Messe de requiem en ut mineur de Francesco Durante (Napolitain, quasi-exact contemporain de Bach) date de la tout fin de la vie du musicien : 1746, l’époque où il était célèbre, professeur de Paisiello, Pergolesi et Leonardo Vinci quand il succéda à son propre maître Alessandro Scarlatti à Sant’Onofrio puis son second maître Porpora au Conservatoire de Naples. Comme Durante ne composa jamais pour la scène, ses œuvres sacrées ont bénéficié d’un sacré coup de projecteur, ce qui n’est que justice quand on découvre ce Requiem à huit voix chorales, bourré d’inventions thématiques et harmoniques si typiquement napolitaines dans le déroulement qui se poursuit pendant presque une heure, une rareté pour un requiem de l’époque. En complément de cet ouvrage chanté par le superbe chœur de la cathédrale de Christ Church et les voix solistes des Sixteen, l’ensemble Oxford Baroque nous offre un adorable concerto pour orgue, toujours de Durante, débordant d’imagination et de fraîcheur. © SM/Qobuz
