Johnny Copeland's patented "Texas twister" style isn't as flamboyant or forceful on this 10-cut CD as on past occasions (at least instrumentally), but his vocals were in fairly good shape. Copeland was at his best on tunes where the emphasis was on style rather than lyric meaning and elaboration. He seemed ill at ease on other tunes, notably the cover of "Jambalaya," where he never got comfortable with the bayou beat and plowed on through, concluding the number compentently, but never offering anything distinctive. The album doesn't cook or boil like Copeland's regional singles, or even his best Alligator material. Instead, it simmers, but winds up just slightly missing the mark.
