Having scored a clutch of international hits on her self-titled debut, Jessica Folcker raised her game on sophomore record Dino. A tighter, more consistent collection than her debut, it's a mystery why this album didn't enjoy the same success as its predecessor. Lead single "Crash Like a Wrecking Ball" is a rocking, aggressive pop song that perfectly fits with Folcker's throaty vocals. "Miracles," which became the theme to the Dutch TV contest Star Search, is a beautiful ballad, and second single "To Be Able to Love" is as irresistible a pop song as anything released by the likes of *NSYNC or Britney Spears that year. The album tracks are much more distinct than those that padded out her debut, easily on a par with the singles in most cases. Folcker puts her multilingual skills to good use on "Dis-Moi Pourquoi," a French reworking of "Tell Me Why," one of the better tracks from her debut album. The commercial failure of this album saw the termination of Folcker's contract with Jive Records, one of many examples of the bad luck that would plague her career. But for fans of the Cheiron-produced sound of the late '90s and early 2000s, this album is well worth seeking out.
