Enrubanné comme un cadeau à ses fans, qui le soutiennent durant ses frasques judiciaires, Chocolate Factory est encore un double album de fait, puisqu’il est couramment vendu en version double, augmenté d’une bonne partie de ce qui aurait constitué Loveland.
S’il est responsable de l’essentiel des sons de ce disque, R. Kelly a cette fois-ci invité quelques musiciens à assurer une section rythmique, des percussions et comme souvent de nombreux choeurs qui lui donnent un aspect encore plus riche. « Step in the Name of Love » est une sorte de gospel inspiré, qui à son tour inspirera son album (double) suivant, tandis que les amateurs du R. Kelly slow se vautrent avec extase dans « Ignition ».
Ja Rule rappe sur le mid-tempo « Been Around the World » et Fat Joe sur le latino « Who’s That » aux sonorités acoustiques réminiscentes des grands moments de la musique cubaine. Infiniment riche, Chocolate Factory est effectivement un disque bourré de magnésium et qui fait du bien.
