Toujours actif malgré ce cancer qui le ronge, Ryuichi Sakamoto fête ses 70 ans en 2022 en donnant accès à son vaste catalogue à une poignée d’artistes qui ont gravité autour de lui durant sa longue carrière démarrée il y a quarante ans avec le groupe de synthpop Yellow Magic Orchestra. Un bel album de remix (appelés ici “remodels”) pour le maître japonais sur lequel on retrouve Grains, extrait de l’album utp_, (collaboration entre Alva Noto et Ryuichi Sakamoto avec l'Ensemble Modern en 2008), revisité par David Sylvian (un autre très proche) qui pose un chant à la fois doux et deep et lui donne un air de ballade de feu de camp pas désagréable.
On retrouve Alva Noto alias Carsten Nicolai sur le remake de The Sheltering Sky, la BO du film de Bertolluci Un Thé au Sahara, qui vaudra d’ailleurs à Sakamoto un Golden Globe en 1990. Le Californien Thundercat, quant à lui, se fait plaisir avec Thousand Knives, extrait du premier album solo de Sakamoto sur lequel il faisait ses premières expériences électroniques en 1978. On retiendra aussi cette version de Choral No. 1, extrait de son album solo de 1999 BTTB, revue par Devonté Hynes aka Blood Orange en compagnie de la chanteuse Emily Schubert. Et puis, en sautant du remodel de DNA par The Cinematic Orchestra au thème de The Revenant revisité par le duo 404.zero, on réalise à quel point il sera difficile de retrouver autant de talent et d’éclectisme réunis dans un seul artiste… © Smaël Bouaici/Qobuz
