Waterbaby

Under the name Waterbaby, Stockholm-based artist Kendra Egerbladh creates hypnotic bedroom pop that blends a low-key organic folk feel with sleek R&B and electronic elements. She first gained notice with "Stockholmsvy,"her vibey hit collaboration with fellow Swede Hannes, then signed a deal with Sub Pop which issued her debut EP, Foam, in 2023. Following in the musical footsteps of her jazz pianist grandfather, Egerbladh grew up singing in choirs and secretly yearning to make big emotive R&B like the megastars she idolized. Her own music eventually matured into something more nuanced. She teamed up with producer and collaborator Marcus White and made downbeat pop music with subtly infectious hooks that explored infatuation, heartbreak, and moods in between. Now using the name Waterbaby, Egerbladh guested on alt-pop singer Seinabo Sey's 2021 standout "Sweet Life." A year later, she and Hannes teamed up for "Stockhomsvy," a slow-grooved, folk-inflected hit that helped introduce Waterbaby to a mainstream audience. American label Sub Pop took notice and signed her to a deal in 2023. Her first two singles, "Airforce Blue" and "911," were effortlessly cool in their fusion of dusky pop and engaging melodies. Both songs appeared on Waterbaby's first EP, Foam, later that year.
