Valesca Popozuda

Known for her husky voice and curvacious physique, the irreverent Brazilian singer, dancer, and television personality Valesca Popozuda rose to prominence in the early aughts as a member of the all-girl group Gaiola das Popozudas. Born Valesca Reis Santos on October 6, 1978, in Rio de Janeiro, she joined Gaoila das Popozudas in 2000 and went on to pioneer the funk carioca genre with the singles "Late Que Eu Tô Passando," "Agora Eu Tô Solteira," and "Quero Te Dar," some of which were remixed and included in compilations by international DJs such as Diplo and Makossa & Megablast. In 2011, she gained further fame by participating in the fourth season of the reality show A Fazenda alongside other celebrities like Raquel Pacheco, Monique Evans, and Joana Machado. Following the group's breakup in 2012, Valesca Popozuda made her official solo debut with the chart-topping single "Beijinho no Ombro" (2013), whose accompanying video eventually accrued over 40 million views on YouTube. This success was followed by the release of an eponymous EP in 2014, which featured her breakout single as well as the Top 5 hit "Eu Sou a Diva Que Você Quer Copiar." In subsequent years, Valesca Popozuda became a regular presence on local reality TV programs and delivered a stream of non-album singles in collaboration with MC TH ("Desce um Gin"), DJ Marlboro ("Ragafunk") and Rebecca ("PayPau"). "Faz Direito," a joint single with fellow funk legend Tati Quebra Barraco and WC No Beat, entered the Brazilian Top 100 at Number 97 in 2022.
